Bay Lanes was built in 1964 to a restaurant entrepreneur and bowling proprietor from Saginaw, Michigan, named Lee Littlefield. It was built on a golf course site at 4243 N. Euclid Ave. in Bay City. Mr. Littlefield then sold Bay Lanes to Joe Deisler, a bowling center proprietor himself of Stardust and State Lanes in Saginaw.
In the early 1980's, Joe Deisler sold the center to yet another bowling proprietor, Gary Richards and Mr. Jack Bullis. Jack Bullis was the manager at Bay Lanes from 1964 until he retired from the bowling business in 1996.
Bay Lanes was then sold to a touring professional bowler named John Mazza. He hired Bill Strike as his manager who himself is will known in the bowling community as a promoter, manager, and bowling center owner Hall of Famer. John and Bill went on to host the Professional Bowlers Tour with the finals being televised live on ESPN around the world which brough notoriety for the Bay City area.
Most recently, Bay Lanes Bowling Center was purchased by the Thelen family who also owns Thelen Auto Group. Under the leadership of Joseph Thelen and general manager Mickie Laskey the business continues to grow and flourish. Joe Thelen has spent a lot of time updating the facility.
